Women’s Basketball Closes Strong to Knock Off Host Southern Connecticut State; HFU Advances to East Region Final in Back-to-Back Years for First Time in Program History

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the first time in program history, the HFU Women's Basketball Team will play in back-to-back NCAA Division II East Region Finals (Sweet 16s) after the Tigers upset the top seed and host Southern Connecticut State, 61-51, in the second round on Saturday night.

Holy Family dominated the fourth quarter to do so, outscoring the Owls 19-9.

Her jumper also made it 52-44 35 seconds later, but SCSU would make one final push to within one, 51-52, on a jumper with 2:34 left.

Holy Family would regroup with a timeout though, setting up a Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) 3-pointer that began a 9-0 run to end the game.
