No. 19 Holy Family Pulls Away from Chestnut Hill to Advance to Second Consecutive CACC Championship Game

CALDWELL, N.J. – The No. 19 HFU Women's Basketball Team outscored Chestnut Hill 23-15 in the fourth quarter to defeat the Griffins 67-59 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Semifinal hosted at Caldwell on Saturday evening.

Tied at 44 entering the final period and then at 48 with under seven minutes remaining, the Tigers used five consecutive points – the final four of which were by Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) – to take its first two-possession advantage of the contest on two Hinkle free throws with 5:28 to go.

Following two CHC foul shots, Holy Family scored six straight as a Hinkle 3-pointer capped an 11-1 stretch to establish a three-possession cushion, 59-50, for good with just 2:54 left to play.

  • HFU would hold the Griffins to just one point over the next 5:26 though, as back-to-back 3-pointers by Ella Brown (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Ngo sparked a 15-1 surge that evened the scoreboard at 25 on a Hinkle triple 2:42 ahead of the break
  • Chestnut Hill closed the half with five of the final seven points to establish a 27-30 edge entering the locker room
  • In the third, the two teams alternated scores until a Hinkle layup and Ngo 3-pointer gave the Tigers their first lead, 39-42, with 2:57 remaining in the period
  • The Griffins responded with a triple of their own though, and the two teams would both score in the final minute for a 44-44 tie heading into the fourth
