Scholarship Recipients

The Walter Swartz Memorial Scholarship
The Walter J. Swartz, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by the family and friends of Walt Swartz, '92, who worked for the Athletic Department since his freshman year, serving as event staff manager for men's and women's basketball and volleyball for 20 years until his sudden death at the age of 38 in September 2009.  Son of Holy Family alumna Catherine Morse Swartz and Walter J. Swartz, Sr., young Walt was fun-loving and enthusiastic, a spirited and dedicated volunteer for the University.  The scholarship is awarded to a student who continues in Walt's footsteps to serve the Athletic Department.

The Christine Gibson Scholar Athlete Scholarship
This scholarship was created to honor Christine Gibson, a 1974 alumnae, the chronically ill sister of Mark and Roy Gibson, the donors of the scholarship.  The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving woman basketball player, majoring in education.  If a suitable basketball player is not found, then a woman softball, volleyball, or soccer player may be considered.  Christine was a dedicated teacher and member of the NJEA who was stricken with Alzheimer's disease at a very early age.

The Regina 'Gerty' Rocks Memorial Scholarship
To honor the memory and serve as a tribute to Regina"Gerty" Rocks, a loyal fan and supporter of her nieces, Mary Ellen and Christine McCollum, and the entire women's basketball program at HFU.  For eight straight seasons from 2006 to 2014, Gerty attended every home game and many road games. Her scholarship can be awarded on merit and/or need to a women's basketball player who shows dedication, commitment, and loyalty to the game.

The Gibson Student-Athlete Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship is given to an outstanding student-athlete majoring in nursing. The scholarship was established to recognize, encourage, and honor the individual that embodies and exemplifies every aspect of a dedicated student and a contributing athlete. The student-athlete is able to balance the rigorous nursing curriculum as well as the demands of collegiate athletics. This person openly demonstrates sportsmanship and is viewed as a role model among his/her peers. This scholarship is awarded for student-athletes entering their junior year or higher with a grade point average of 3.0 or better, along with endorsement by the student-athlete's coach and the recommendation of the Director of Athletics.

The Reuscher-Fitzgerald Softball Scholarship
The Reuscher-Fitzgerald Softball Scholarship was established in 2017 to honor Colleen Fitzgerald and Marilyn Fitzgerald , mother and grandmother, respectively, of Cassandra Fitzgerald-Black '12 and Raymond and Cyndi Reuscher, the late parents of Tori Reuscher '15.  It is given to an outstanding softball player with a strong grade point average, effective leadership, dedication to the sport of softball, and financial need. Preference is given to 
history majors.

The Jenna Richards Memorial Scholarship
    To honor the memory of Jenna Richards, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in December 2016. The Jenna Richards Scholarship is presented to a member of the women's soccer program. It is given to an outstanding women's soccer player who has a strong sense of commitment and dedication to being her best and strives to exceed her potential.  She is committed to developing every aspect with an emphasis on strength and conditioning.

The Sandra Michael Endowed Scholarship for Scholar-Athletes
The scholar athlete chosen as recipient will be a talented, organized, and disciplined student who knows that to excel in sports as well as studies one has to make sacrifices and use time and energy wisely. The award encourages students who are achieving the goal of being well-rounded students and recognizes them as models for their teammates. It is given to a full-time student who has displayed superior performance in one or more sports, and who has excelled academically.
