PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - On Wednesday, April 6^th, 19 student-athletes were inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma-the National Scholastic Honor Society for student-athletes. The induction ceremony was held in conjunction with other University Honor Society Induction ceremonies held on the campus of Holy Family. The program also featured the 2021 induction class that did not get an in person ceremony last year due to the pandemic.

"It was a wonderful and inspirational evening," said Robin Arnold, Associate Director of Athletics. "It is important to take time out to encourage and reward the high academic achievement of our student-athletes. Chi Alpha Sigma is a perfect vehicle through which the hard work of our student-athletes in the classroom can be recognized."

Founded in 1996, Chi Alpha Sigma is the first national scholar athlete society to honor student-athletesfor high academic achievement and participation on an athletics team. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a member in good standing on a varsity athletics team, must have attained junior status or higher, and must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher.

It was an exciting and festive occasion for the student-athlete inductees, as they were joyful and appreciative as their names were called and received their awards. Athletic Director Tim Hamill opened the program with a welcome address that included recognizing their academic achievements and how well the student-athletes represent the University. Sister Mary Joan Jacobs, Faculty Athletics Representative, gave an inspiring prayer and, in her remarks, praised the student athletes' accomplishments despite the demands of their respective sports. Family and friends were also in attendance which added to the celebratory nature of the occasion. This is the seventh class of student-athletes that has been inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma.
