BOX SCOREPhiladelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team punched its ticket into the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament after defeating Chestnut Hill College by the score of 24-10 in the regular season finale on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Holy Family improved to 8-8 overall and finished conference play with an 8-3 record. Chestnut Hill concludes its season 3-14 overall and 3-8 in the CACC.
Prior to today's game Holy Family recognized seniors
Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross) and
Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York) in part of Senior Day festivities.
Sophomores
Nicole Braungart (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and
Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) each scored six goals in the victory to lead the Tigers' offense. Braungart set a new career-high with her six scores, while Settar tied her career-high set two weeks ago at Chestnut Hill.
LaRose totaled six points in the victory after tying her career-high with five goals and adding an assist. With her six points LaRose collected her 100
th career point becoming the fifth player in program history to reach the milestone. She also caused a team-high three turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
Junior
Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) finished with seven points as she dished out a game-high five assists to go along with two scores. Junior
Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) totaled a game-high five ground balls and controlled four draws, while fellow classmate
Kimber Kisselback (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) recorded four ground balls, three draws and caused one turnover.
For Chestnut Hill, freshman Lea Sanders led the Griffins in scoring with five points after totaling four goals and an assist. She also picked up two ground balls and controlled three draws. Junior Alicia Herbert finished with two goals, three ground balls and two draw controls.
Holy Family scored the game's first six goals to take a 6-0 lead within the first nine minutes of the game. The Tigers would go on to score 14 first half goals on their way to a 14-6 halftime advantage.
Sanders opened the scoring in the second half with a goal for the Griffins in the opening minute. Holy Family went on to score nine unanswered goals to take a commanding 23-7 lead by the 10:41 mark of the half.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made seven saves in net for the Tigers, while freshman Katie Joe Lang totaled seven stops for the Griffins.
Holy Family held the advantage in shots (36-21), ground balls (26-17), draws (19-17) and turnovers (14-18).
Holy Family will be making its fifth straight appearance in the CACC Tournament and will look to defend its title as the Tigers face top-seeded Georgian Court University out of the North Division on Saturday. This year's semifinals/finals will be hosted by Chestnut Hill College. The Tigers and Lions face off at 2 p.m.
