Late Flurry at Felician Lifts Women’s Lacrosse to 2-0 in CACC

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The HFU Women's Lacrosse Team scored thrice in the span of 2:03 late in the fourth quarter to break a deadlock and improve to 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a 14-12 win at Felician on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
Tied at 11 entering the final five minutes, Taina Harkins (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), Gwen Varley (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) and Lexi Ryan (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) all found the net to help the Tigers pull away. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Ryan led all players with seven draw controls and four goals and added a team-high three caused turnovers, the latter two of which were career-best
  • Harkins had a match-high five points on three goals and two assists
  • Varley also netted a hat trick and was second on HFU with three draw controls
  • Morgan Wise (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area Senior) led all players with a season-best three assists
  • Riley Fudala (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) topped the Tigers with a season-high four ground balls
  • Haydee Guzman (New Castle, Del./St. Georges Technical) made eight saves to pick up her third consecutive win

How it Happened
  • The two teams alternated the first seven scores in a 3-4 first quarter, before Felician opened the second with a back-to-back goals to establish a 3-6 advantage with 7:44 left in the first half
  • The Tigers countered with three in a row of their own though, as Julia Leibig (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) evened the scoreboard in the final minute to make it 6-6 at the break
  • Neither team led by more than one in the third as both teams netted four goals in the period
  • Tied at 10 entering the fourth, Wise found the net with 7:04 remaining, but the Golden Falcons would tie the match for a ninth time with 5:12 to go
