Tigers Extend Winning Streak With 13-7 Victory Over Dominican

Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross) tied her career-high with a five-goal performance as the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Dominican College by the score of 13-7 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
 
Holy Family, winners of five straight games, improves to .500 for the first time this season at 7-7 overall.  The Tigers also increase its lead over Wilmington University (5-4) to 1.5 games for second place in the CACC South Division boasting a 7-3 conference mark.
 
Dominican is now 7-6 overall and 6-4 in the CACC as the Chargers currently sit in second place in the CACC North Division.
 
LaRose led all scorers with six points as she totaled a career-high five goals to go along with an assist.  She also picked up two ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.  Junior Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) finished with three goals, while sophomore Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) added two scores and a game-high five ground balls.
 
Senior Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York) had four ground balls and caused one turnover on defense for the Tigers, while junior Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) led the way controlling a game-high six draws.  Kelly also picked up three ground balls.
 
For Dominican, juniors Allison Smithwick and Gina Sparaco each led the Chargers with two goals apiece.  Senior Olivia Antonopoulos picked up a game-high five ground balls and caused a game-high three turnovers. 
 
After Lancetta scored the game's first goal :80 seconds into the game, Dominican followed with three straight scores to take a 3-1 lead.  However, Holy Family countered with four goals bookended by LaRose who started and capped the mini rally.  LaRose's score at the 13:11 mark gave the Tigers a 5-3 lead.
 
Dominican would go on to tie the game at 5-5 before Holy Family took the lead back for good.  Lancetta broke the tie and scored the eventual game-winner with 3:33 remaining in the half.  LaRose tacked on a goal for the Tigers in the final minute as the home team went into halftime with a 7-5 advantage.
 
Holy Family outshot Dominican, 16-11, in the first half and went on to hold a 30-19 advantage on total shots for the game.  The Tigers also controlled the draw throughout the game winning 15-of-21 draws.
 
In the second half, back teams exchange goals to open the scoring.  Holy Family scored the half's first goal ten-plus minutes into the action.  After the teams exchange goals multiple times, Holy Family closed out the game with four unanswered scores in the final five minutes.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made nine saves for the Tigers in net as she held Dominican to 1-of-8 on free position shots.  Dominican sophomore Brittany Keirnan stopped nine shots as well in net.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, April 17 as the Tigers travel to face Saint Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 11 a.m.
