Tigers Come Up Short Versus Millersville, 17-12

Radnor, Pa. - Senior Brooke Fisher scored a game-high six goals as Millersville University defeated the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team by the score of 17-12 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night at Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College.
 
Holy Family is now 0-2 overall, while Millersville begins its season at 1-0.
 
Senior Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross) and junior Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) combined for eight goals scoring four apiece to lead the Holy Family offense.  LaRose added a ground ball and caused a turnover on defense, while Lancetta led the team with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Lancetta was also 2-of-3 on free position shot attempts.
 
Senior Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York) finished with two goals and controlled four draws for the Tigers.  Sophomore Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) recorded one goal, three ground balls and four draw controls.
 
For Millersville, Fisher and junior Hannah Vogel combined for 11 of the team's 17 goals in the victory.  Fisher led the way with six scores to go along with three ground balls and five draw controls.  Vogel totaled five scores, three ground balls and four draw controls.  Freshman Renee Landis finished the game with four points off three goals and one assist.
 
It was a close game to start off in the first half with neither team leading by more than two scores.  Millersville led 4-2 after back-to-back scores by Fisher (19:41 & 13:50), however Holy Family responded with three straight goals to take a 5-4 lead advantage with 6:25 to play until halftime.
 
LaRose scored two straight goals to give the Tigers the lead for the first time since leading 1-0 to open the game when Lancetta tallied an unassisted score in the opening two minutes.
 
As the half progressed, Millersville would go on to tie the game and take the lead in the final minute of the first half.  Vogel scored with :57 seconds remaining and then grabbed the lead as time expired when junior Dana Luoma connected on her lone score of the game.  The Marauders led 6-5 entering halftime.
 
In the second half Millersville led the rest of the way and took a four goal lead midway through the half after a Vogel goal made the score 14-10 at the 12:20 mark. 
 
Holy Family cut the score to 14-12 with five minutes to play in regulation, however the Tigers' 12th score of the game was called off by the officials.  From there, Millersville grabbed the momentum and scored back-to-back goals in the next two minutes to pull ahead, 16-11.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made seven saves in net after facing 30 shots by Millersville.  The Marauders held a slight edge on shots (30-24), ground balls (23-19) and turnovers (14-17).  Holy Family had the advantage on the draw, 17-13.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Friday, March 7 as the Tigers open conference play at Nyack College.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
