Villanova, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener to visiting Seton Hill University by the score of 15-8 in a non-conference contest on Saturday morning at Villanova Stadium on the campus of Villanova University.

Holy Family is 0-1 to start the new season, while Seton Hill improves to 2-0 with the victory.

Senior
Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross) and junior
Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) each tallied a pair of goals to lead the Tigers' offense. Lancetta also finished with a team-high four ground balls and controlled three draws on the afternoon.

For Seton Hill, redshirt junior Emma Simmers led all scorers with five goals to go along with a game-high eight ground balls. Simmers finished with a game-high six total points and caused three turnovers on defense. Redshirt sophomore Emily Fagan and freshman Christine Palmeri each totaled three goals apiece, while redshirt sophomore Renee Kania dished out a game-high four assists.Â

Seton Hill jumped out to a 1-0 lead within the first few minutes of the game, but the Tigers responded with two straight goals by LaRose (26:55) and Lancetta (18:22) to lead 2-1.

However, Seton Hill regained the lead midway through the half (15:15) when Simmers connected on her first of five goals of the game. Her score jumpstarted what turned out to be four unanswered goals by Seton Hill as the Griffins took a 5-2 lead. Fagan capped the run at the 7:13 mark with her second score of the game.

Both teams would score two more times in the half as Seton Hill entered halftime with a 7-4 advantage. Sophomore
Erin Harmer (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and LaRose each tallied a goal for the Tigers down the stretch.

In the second half, Seton Hill opened with a 4-0 run to take an 11-4 advantage within the first 12 minutes of the half. Redshirt senior Rachel Hilbert got things started with a goal at the 23:58 mark, which jumpstarted another 4-0 run by the Griffins to increase their lead to 11-4.

Holy Family responded with a pair of goals to cut the lead to 11-6 by the 12:04 mark, but once again Seton Hill tallied four unanswered goals to pull away from the Tigers. The Griffins led by as many as nine goals after freshman Tristen Hanke tallied a scored with less than two minutes to play (15-6).

Sophomore
Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) and junior
Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) scored the final two goals of the game in the final minutes of the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper
Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made eight saves for the Tigers. Freshmen Meghan Hollar (3 SV) and Melanie Morget (4 SV) each split time in net for the Griffins.

Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, March 5 as the Tigers host Millersville University in a non-conference contest. Â Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College.
