Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to cross-town rival Philadelphia University by the score of 16-5 on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Holy Family is now 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the CACC, while Philadelphia improves to 9-4 overall and 7-0 in conference action.
Senior
Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and sophomore
Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) each led the Tigers with two points on the afternoon. McNesby finished with a goal and an assist to go along with four draw controls, while Lancetta tallied a team-high two scores.
Junior
Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross) and freshman
Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) recorded the other two scores by the Tigers. Senior
Jessica Maloney (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) led the team with four ground balls, while sophomores
Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) and
Kimber Kisselback (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) each caused a pair of turnovers.
For Philadelphia, sophomore Lauren Hartman exploded for a game-high five goals to lead the Rams' offense. Junior Libby Nichols and freshman Liz Mower each recorded hat tricks with three goals apiece. Nichols also caused a game-high four turnovers. Junior Melissa Styer led the team with six ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers.
Holy Family controlled a majority of the draws (13-10) during the course of the game, but Philadelphia took advantage of the Tigers' turnovers holding a 23-13 edge.
After Philadelphia scored the game's first goal, Holy Family quickly responded with back-to-back goals by LaRose and Settar to lead 2-1 four minutes into the game.
However, Philadelphia rallied off four straight scores to take a 5-2 lead at the 18:37 mark before Lancetta's first score of the game interrupted the Rams run.
Leading 5-3, Philadelphia went on to close the half on a 4-0 run holding the Tigers scoreless for the final 14:10 of the half. The Rams led 9-3 entering the break at halftime.
In the second half, Philadelphia continued to control the game and outscored the Tigers, 7-2, including the final four scores of the game.
Freshman
Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made 12 saves in net for the Tigers after facing 31 shots by the Rams.
Philadelphia sophomore goalkeeper, Kristen Moran, made five stops on 14 shot attempts by the Tigers.
Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, April 11 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
