Tigers Drop Season Opener to Seton Hill, 11-6

BOX SCORE

Greensburg, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener by the score of 11-6 at Seton Hill University Saturday afternoon in Greensburg.

Holy Family opens its season at 0-1, while Seton Hill starts its new campaign at 1-0.  The loss snapped the Tigers' 11-game winning streak dating back to last season.

Junior Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross) scored four of the team's six goals, including the only two scores in the first half by the Tigers.  Senior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored a pair of goals for the Tigers in the second half.

For Seton Hill, senior Rachel Hilbert led the team with three goals and two assists.  Sophomore Emily Fagan also scored three goals, while senior Morgan Cain tallied two goals.

Seton Hill led nearly the entire game except for the period of time the Tigers tied the game at 1-1 after LaRose's first goal of the game tied the score at the 9:46 mark.  The Griffins answered with back-to-back goals to lead 3-1, but LaRose struck again for the Tigers to cut the lead down to 3-2 at the 21:34 mark.

However, Seton Hill went on to score the final two goals of the half to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Holy Family scored the first goal of the half as McNesby scored her first goal of the season to make the score 5-3.  The Griffins answered and went on to tally another pair of goals to make the score 7-3.

As the half progressed, Holy Family went on a 3-1 run thanks to back-to-back goals by LaRose.  Her two scores in less than a minute span cut the Griffins' lead to 8-6 at the 48:57 mark of the half.

That turned out to be the final goal by the Tigers in the final 11-plus minutes of action as Seton Hill scored the game's final three goals to hold on to the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) totaled six saves in net for the Tigers.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, March 5 as the Tigers travel to face Shippensburg University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
