Brookeville, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to the reigning national champions and nationally ranked No. 1 LIU Post by the score of 22-6 Saturday afternoon.
Holy Family is now 2-3 overall, while LIU Post improves to 5-0 overall.
Senior
Maria Mattioli (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Nazareth) led the Tigers with two goals on offense, while juniors
Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York) and
Brigit LaRose (Lumberton, N.J./Holy Cross), along with sophomore
Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and freshman
Nicole Braungart (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace) each tallied a goal in the game. Braungart's goal marked her first career score.
For LIU Post, junior Jackie Sileo led the Pioneers with 12 points after recording four goals and eight assists in the win. With her eight assists, Sileo tied the NCAA Division II record for career assists with 204. Senior Ashley Olen scored a game-high five goals to go along with two assists, while junior Samantha Losco added four goals.
LIU Post began the game outscoring Holy Family, 5-1 over the first 16:54 minutes. The Pioneers would go on to take a 14-4 lead entering halftime.
The Pioneers at one point scored eight straight goals over a 15-minute span.
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, March 20 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in the team's first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest of the season. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
