Lancetta Scores Game-Winner in Overtime as Women's Lacrosse Defeats Dominican, 16-15

Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team made it three wins in a row after defeating Dominican College by the score of 16-15 in three overtime periods in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest Thursday afternoon.
 
The win pushed Holy Family to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while Dominican is now 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the CACC. 
 
Senior Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) led the Holy Family offense with five goals as she finished the game 3-for-5 on free position shots.  Junior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and freshman Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) each recorded a hat trick with three goals apiece.  McNesby also set a single-game record with 15 draw controls.  It marked the third straight game that she tallied double digits in draws. 
 
Senior Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., N.J./Camden Catholic) and freshman Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) each scored a pair of goals.  Kelly also led the team with six ground balls. 
 
For Dominican, senior Aubree Williams and sophomore KC Jentzen each scored four goals to lead the Chargers.  Williams also tallied four assists to finish the game with eight points.  She also had three ground balls and controlled two draws.  Sophomore Traci Muniz scored three goals and had two ground balls.
 
With :20 seconds remaining in the third overtime period, Lancetta sent Holy Family home with the victory after scoring the game winner to clinch the 16-15 triumph.  The Tigers trailed Dominican 15-13 after the first overtime period, however the team responded with two goals in the second overtime period to tie the game at 15-15.
 
Mansi tallied a goal at the 2:01 mark, while McNesby tied the score with only :14 seconds to play in the second overtime period. 
 
Both teams battled back-and-forth throughout the game with neither team grabbing a lead larger than two goals.  Late in the second half, Holy Family scored four straight goals to take a 13-11 lead after trailing 11-9 with 10:54 to play in regulation.
 
Lancetta capped the Tigers 4-0 run after converting on a free position shot at the 2:32 mark. 
 
The Chargers responded with a pair of goals in the final :44 seconds, including the game-tying goal by freshman Allison Smithwick.  Smithwick's goal came with only :16 seconds showing on the clock to send the game into overtime at 13-13.
 
Senior goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) tallied a season-high 18 saves in net for the Tigers, while sophomore Veronica Iozzi made 16 stops for the Chargers.
 
Holy Family dominated draws as the Tigers controlled 25 compared to only eight by Dominican.  The Chargers held the advantage in ground balls (21-19) and shots (46-44).
