McNesby Nets Six as Women's Lacrosse Defeats Chestnut Hill, 13-11

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team won its second straight game after defeating Chestnut Hill College, 13-11, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest Tuesday night.
 
Holy Family improves to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while Chestnut Hill falls to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in CACC action.
 
Junior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored a career-high six goals to lead the Holy Family offense.  She also controlled ten draws for the second straight game and recorded two ground balls.  Senior Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., N.J./Camden Catholic) netted three goals, while fellow classmate Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) scored three goals and assisted on another to finish with four points. Freshman Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) also scored for the Tigers and caused two turnovers.
 
For Chestnut Hill, juniors Nicole Covella and Brianne Timony combined for seven of the team's 11 goals.  Covella finished with three goals and an assist, while Timony led the team with four goals.  Junior Erica Eaby tallied a goal and an assist to go along with a game-high five draw controls. 
 
Holy Family scored four straight goals to end the first half as the Tigers pulled away from Chestnut Hill with the half's biggest lead, 9-5, at halftime.  With the game tied 5-5, Mansi and McNesby each scored a pair of goals in the final 4:35 to power the Tigers' rally.  McNesby gave Holy Family a 9-5 lead at the half as she scored with ten seconds remaining in the first half.
 
In the second half, Chestnut Hill would go on to outscore Holy Family, 6-4, however the Griffins only came within three scores of the Tigers' lead throughout the half until the finals two seconds.  Chestnut Hill scored the game's final three goals, including one with only two seconds left on the clock to make the score 13-11. 
 
Prior to the Griffins three goal rally, Holy Family tallied back-to-back goals from McNesby and Mansi before going on an 11:05 scoring drought.  Despite the offensive struggle down the stretch, Holy Family managed to hold on to the two-goal victory. 
 
Senior goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made seven saves in net for the Tigers, while junior Jenn Delahanty made 13 stops for the Griffins.
 
Holy Family outshot Chestnut Hill 38-26 throughout the game and held the advantage on draws (14-11) as well as ground balls (12-9).
 
Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, April 5 as the Tigers travel to face Dominican College in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
