Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener to nationally ranked West Chester University by the score of 16-4 Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Holy Family is now 0-2 on the young season, while #7 West Chester starts the season with a 1-0 mark.
Junior
Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and freshman
Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) each scored a pair of goals for the Tigers. McNesby also controlled three draws and had four ground balls.
For West Chester, senior Jacki Patterson and junior Tori Dugan combined for seven goals to lead the Golden Rams' offense. Dugan led the tea with four goals, while Patterson tallied three goals and one assist.
West Chester scored ten first half goals on its way to the double-digit victory. The Golden Rams defense kept the Holy Family offense off the scoreboard in the first half and limited the Tigers to only four shots.
For the game, West Chester held the advantage on shots (38-11) and draw controls (15-7).
Senior
Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) recorded 13 saves in net for the Tigers, while her counterpart, sophomore Jess Henderson, made four stops.
Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, March 8 as the Tigers host Mercy College in a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
