GAME ONE BOX SCORE
GAME TWO BOX SCORE

Newtown, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team suffered its first setback in conference play this season after falling to Caldwell College, 5-3 and 6-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Helen Randle Park in Newtown.

Holy Family is now 10-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Caldwell improves to 16-5 overall and 6-0 in the CACC.

Junior Danielle McDevitt (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) went 3-for-6 at the plate on the afternoon.  She also drove in two runs and scored a run for the Tigers.  Sophomore Erin Corrado (Fair Hill, Md./St. Mark's (Del.)) finished the doubleheader 2-for-4 with a run, while freshmen Kelsi Bunda (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Erica Reis (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks East ) each went 2-for-5.  Reis also drove in a run in game one.

Game One: Caldwell 5, Holy Family 3

In game one, Caldwell took an early 1-0 lead after freshman Briana Gaspich grounded out and in the process scored junior Dia Casone from third base.  The Cougars loaded the bases prior to Gaspich's at-bat and looked as if they would break the game open with a big inning.  However, the Tigers managed to record three straight outs and left the inning only allowing one run.

In the bottom half of the second, Holy Family took the lead with a clutch two-out hit by McDevitt, which scored Bunda and Corrado.  Earlier in the inning, the Tigers loaded the bases with three straight one-out hits.

Caldwell tied the game in the following inning with a solo shot by Gaspich to tie the game at 2-2.  The Cougars would go on to add three runs in the fourth inning to take its biggest lead of the game by the score of 5-2.  Sophomore Nicole Velardi highlighted the inning with a two-out single, which plated two runners.

Holy Family would add another run in the bottom of the seventh with a run scoring single by Reis but the Tigers late inning rally would fall short as junior Kourtney Wilson (8-2) closed out the game to pick up her eighth victory of the season.  Wilson went the distance as she scattered eight hits and struck out one.

Sophomore Victoria Reuscher (Cheltenham, Pa./Little Flower HS for Girls) also went the distance for the Tigers as she surrendered five runs off ten hits.  Reuscher struck out two batters and is now 5-5 on the season.

McDevitt went 2-of-3 for the Tigers and drove in two runs, while Reis went 4-for-2 with a RBI.

For Caldwell, Cascone went 2-for-3 with two runs, while Velardi and Gaspich each drove in two runs apiece.

Game Two: Caldwell 6, Holy Family 0

A four-run third inning fueled Caldwell as the Cougars shutout the Tigers, 6-0.  In the third, the Cougars received back-to-back two run doubles by Gaspich and freshman Alyssa Calderon to take a 4-0 lead.

That would be all the support freshman Hanna Walkinshaw would need as she shutdown the Holy Family offense with a complete game performance.  Walkinshaw scattered four hits in seven innings and struck out eight batters to earn her fourth win of the season.

Caldwell added two more runs in the seventh inning with run scoring hits by Cascone and Velardi.  Cascone finished the game 2-for-4, while Velardi was 2-for-3.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, March 27 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 3 p.m.
