Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team exploded for a season-high 23 goals as the Tigers defeated visiting Post University, 23-6, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Holy Family reaches the .500 mark with the victory at 3-3 overall and improve to 2-1 in conference action. Post falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the CACC.
Ten different players scored for Holy Family as senior
Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) and freshman
Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) led the squad with four goals apiece. Lancetta also had an assist and controlled six draws. Senior
Katherine Podlinski (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) and juniors
Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and
Maria Mattioli (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Nazareth) all recorded hat tricks with three goals. McNesby also assisted on two goals and led the team with four ground balls. She also controlled five draws.
Senior
Lauren Greco (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) tallied two goals, while fellow classmate
Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., N.J./Camden Catholic) and sophomore
Marissa Lawson (York, Pa./Central York) each scored against the Eagles. Freshmen
Caitlin Carrezola (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and
Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) scored as well. Carrezola's tally was her first collegiate goal.
For Post, freshman Eryka Baez led the team with a season high four goals. She also had three ground balls and caused one turnover. Junior Morgan Kanavy and sophomore Meghan Diggett each scored for the Eagles with a goal apiece. Senior Mallorie Michalak finished the game with three assists.
Holy Family quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back. The Tigers outscored the Eagles, 14-4 in the first half and controlled the tempo of the game throughout. Holy Family controlled the draws, 21-10, and outshot its opposition, 39-15.
In the second half, the Holy Family defense limited Post to only three shots the entire half and only surrendered two goals.
Senior goalkeeper
Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made seven saves in net for the Tigers, while junior Michelle Chadwick turned away seven shots as well.
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, March 24 as the Tigers travel to face Queens College in a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
