Women's Lacrosse Edged by Wilmington, 13-11

New Castle, Del. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team came up short against Wilmington University by the score of 13-11 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday afternoon.
 
Holy Family is now 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while Wilmington improves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
 
Senior Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., N.J./Camden Catholic) and junior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) combined for seven goals to lead the Holy Family offense.  McNesby led the team with four goals to go along with three ground balls and six draw controls.  Cornely finished with three goals and controlled two draws.  Freshman Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) added two goals to increase her season total to 13. 
 
For Wilmington, junior Jaclyn Hall led the team with three goals as the Wildcats came away with 13 goals against the Tigers.  Senior Kory Webster and juniors Liz Case and Ashley Kroll each scored two goals.  Case also assisted on a score. 
 
Wilmington jumped out to a quick and early lead scoring two goals within the first two minutes of the game.  As the half progressed, the Wildcats increased their lead to 5-1 after a goal by Case at the 19:53 mark.
 
However, Holy Family rallied and closed out the first half with 4-2 run to come within two goals of Wilmington's lead.  A goal by McNesby at the 10:11 mark made the score 7-5.   Both teams were held scoreless the rest of the half heading into halftime.
 
In the second half, Cornely scored the first goal of the half to bring Holy Family within one score of the Wildcats' lead.  Cornely's goal made the score 7-6 at the 25:53 mark of the half.
 
Wilmington quickly responded and doubled its lead to 8-6, however Holy Family tallied back-to-back goals to tie the game at 8-8.  Cornely scored on a free position shot (23:06), while McNesby followed with an unassisted goal at the 20:37 mark to tie the game.
 
A minute later the Wildcats regained the lead with a goal by sophomore Jessica Stratton and then took a two score advantage when senior Kory Webster scored with 17:43 remaining in the second half.
 
Holy Family would cut the lead to 10-9 after Lancetta scored an unassisted goal with 15:19 showing on the clock.  However, that would be as close as the Tigers would get as Wilmington maintained its lead the rest of the way.
 
Senior Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made 14 saves in net for the Tigers, while her counterpart, junior Kaitlyn Hall, made 23 stops for the Wildcats. 
 
Holy Family held the advantage in ground balls (15-11) and in draw controls (17-9).  The Tigers also forced 16 turnovers throughout the game. 
 
Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, March 22 as the Tigers host Post University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
