Women’s Lacrosse Drops Conference Tilt With Georgian Court, 21-12

Senior Ryan McGrath scored a game-high seven goals as Georgian Court University defeated the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team, 21-12, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Tiger Field Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family is now 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the CACC, while Georgian Court improves to 7-4 overall 7-0 in conference play.

Junior Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) and sophomore Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) each recorded hat tricks for Holy Family.  Mansi finished the game with three goals, while McNesby tallied three goals and three assists for six points.  Senior Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) contributed two goals and two assists for four points to go along with three draw controls.  Junior Katherine Podlinski (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) also scored a pair of goals for the Tigers.

For Georgian Court, McGrath led the way with seven goals.  She also had five ground balls.  Seniors Jillian Hadfield and Alley Abbate each scored three goals for the Lions.  Fellow classmate Shannon Mastrogiovanni and freshman Catherine Dee tallied two goals apiece.  

Georgian Court scored seven unanswered goals in a seven-plus minute span late in the first half to pull away from Holy Family.  With the game tied 5-5, sophomore Corrine Coyle scored a free position goal to jump-start the run at the 11:33 mark.  Mastrogiovanni capped the rally with a goal to 4:43 to give the Lions a 12-5 advantage.  

Holy Family tacked on a goal with less than a minute to play in the first half by Podlinski to make the score 12-6.  However, Georgian Court responded with a goal of its own with :27 seconds left on the clock as Hadfield scored to give the Lions a 13-6 halftime lead.

Georgian Court outshot Holy Family, 23-8, in the first half and also controlled the draws, 11-9.  For the game, the Lions held the advantage on shots (42-19) and draws (18-17).  

In the second half, Holy Family struck first after both teams went the first seven-plus minutes of the half scoreless.  McNesby's goal made the score 13-7.  Georgian Court, though, continued its offensive push as the Lions scored three unanswered goals on two separate occasions in the half, including three goals in a one-minute span.  

Junior goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made 13 saves in net for the Tigers.

Holy Family is back in action a week from today when the Tigers host Dominican College in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
