Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team picked up its second win in nine days against Wilmington University with a 17-8 victory at Tiger Field Thursday afternoon.
Holy Family improves to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the CACC after the win, while Wilmington is now 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the CACC.
Senior
Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) exploded for a game-high seven goals to lead the Holy Family offense. James scored four goals in the first half and had three in the second. Junior
Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) scored a pair of goals and in the process surpassed the 100-career goal mark. Mansi is the second player to record 100 career goals this season. James became the first player to reach the milestone as she recorded her momentous goal a few weeks ago. Currently, James and Mansi sit one and two on the all-time goals scored list in program history. James has 122 career goals, while Mansi has 101.
Juniors
Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., N.J./Camden Catholic) and
Lauren Greco (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) each tallied a pair of goals and an assist for the Tigers.
For Wilmington, sophomore Elizabeth Case recorded a hat trick to lead the Wildcats in scoring. She also had an assist for four total points. Fellow classmate Meggan Apgar tallied two goals and an assist for three points. She also had two ground balls.
Holy Family jumped out to a quick and early lead scoring three goals in the first five-plus minutes of action. Greco, James and sophomore
Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) each scored to give the Tigers the 3-0 lead.
Wilmington answered back with back-to-back goals from sophomore Molly Taylor and senior Danielle Niccoli to make the score 3-2 at the 22:04 mark. However, Holy Family responded with four straight goals after James capped the run with a free position goal at the 5:22 mark to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Tigers.
The Wildcats would add another goal minutes later prior to James scoring the final two goals of the half to give Holy Family a 9-3 lead at halftime. James scored with just over three minutes to play in the first half and scored again with 15 seconds showing on the clock.
In the second half, Holy Family's offense continued where it left off as the Tigers outscored the Wildcats 8-5. Holy Family had a substantial lead throughout the second half and swelled its lead to as many as ten goals after freshman
Theresa Mote (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock South) scored at the 3:10 mark to make the score 17-7.

Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made 18 saves in net, while her counterpart freshman Corinne Dries tallied seven saves.
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, April 9 as the Tigers face Georgian Court University at Tiger Field in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
