Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored the game's final two goals to lift the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team to a 16-15 victory over Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest Wednesday afternoon.
With the victory, Holy Family improves to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the CACC. In the process, the Tigers snapped their three-game losing streak. Wilmington is now 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the CACC.
James scored a game-high six goals, including four in the first half, to lead the Holy Family offense. Junior
Lauren Greco (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) tallied three goals to go along with three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Fellow classmate
Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., N.J./Camden Catholic) contributed two goals, while also controlling two draw controls and causing one turnover.
For Wilmington, senior Danielle Niccoli led the team with six goals as she also recorded three groundballs and three draw controls. Sophomore Molly Taylor contributed three goals, while juniors Eliza Burk and Rebecca Guethler added two goals each. Burk also had four draw controls.
Both teams battled back and forth throughout the first half with neither team taking control of the game. Holy Family held a multiple goal lead on three separate occasions during the half and eventually took the game's biggest lead after James scored with only: 13 seconds remaining before halftime. James' goal gave the Tigers a 12-9 lead heading into the half.
In the second half, Wilmington scored the first two goals of the half to come within one goal of the Tigers' lead (12-11) after a goal by Taylor minutes into the half.
Holy Family continued to lead and actually led the majority of the second half until Wilmington scored three unanswered goals to tie the game and take the lead. The Wildcats tied the game with a goal by Burke with 7:20 left to play in regulation and minutes later took their first lead since the first half by a goal from Niccoli to make the score 15-14.
Less than a minute later, Holy Family tied the score at 15-15 as James scored an unassisted goal with 4:30 showing on the clock. The game remained tied entering the final minute of action and that's when James struck again scoring another unassisted goal to give the Tigers the lead and eventual win with: 33 seconds to play.

Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) tallied seven saves in net for the Tigers, while freshman Corinne Dries made 12 stops for the Wildcats.
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, April 2 as the Tigers play host to Molloy College in a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
