Women’s Lacrosse Drops Overtime Contest to Chestnut Hill, 15-13

Sophomore Nicole Covella scored the final two goals in the overtime period as Chestnut Hill College defeated the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team, 15-13, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday night.

Holy Family is now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while Chestnut Hill improves to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Sophomore Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored a team-high five goals to lead the Holy Family offense.  She also dished out one assist to go along with two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.  Senior Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and junior Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) each scored two goals a piece.  Junior Lauren Greco (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) tallied two goals to go along with one assist.

For Chestnut Hill, Covella led the team's offense as she scored a game-high nine goals to go along with two assists to finish the game with 11 points.  Covella also had five draw controls.  Sophomore Christina Squillante finished with two goals and one assist for the Griffins.

McNesby gave Holy Family a two goal advantage at the 10:25 mark of the second half after scoring her fifth goal of the game to make the score 12-10. Minutes later Squillante scored to cut the Holy Family lead to one after coming through with her second tally of the contest.  

With less than :30 seconds remaining in regulation Covella scored the game-tying goal to even the score at 12-12 to force overtime.  

In overtime, sophomore Lindsay Alexander gave Chestnut Hill the lead as she scored at the 3:51 mark to give the Griffins a 13-12 advantage.  However, Holy Family answered right back as Greco tied the game at 13-13 with a goal of her own :30 seconds later.  

With less than two minutes to play in overtime, Covella struck again scoring the eventual winning goal off a free position shot to give the Griffins the lead, 14-13.  Covella would add an insurance goal with one second left on the clock as Chestnut Hill secured the 15-13 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made 13 saves in net for the Tigers, while her counterpart, Jenn Delahanty, pushed away 12 shots.

Holy Family held the advantage in ground balls (21-10) and draw controls (16-15).  

Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, March 24 as the Tigers travel to Dominican College for a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
