Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team scored a season-high 18 goals as the Tigers defeated Queens College, 18-14, in a non-conference contest at Tiger Field Tuesday afternoon.

With the victory, Holy Family improves to 1-2 overall on the young season, while Queens falls to 3-2 overall.

Sophomore Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored a team-high five goals to lead the Holy Family offense.  McNesby also had three draw controls and two ground balls.  Senior Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) came through with four goals and one assist, while juniors Lauren Greco (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) and Katherine Podlinski (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) each scored three goals apiece.

For Queens, sophomore Sarah Boucher led the way with a team-high five goals.  She also had one assist for six points and came through with six draw controls.  Junior Meghan Monahan tallied three goals and an assist, while sophomore Heather Rosen recorded a pair of goals and one assist for the Knights.

Queens jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after scoring a pair of goals the first two minutes of action by Boucher and Rosen.  However, Holy Family responded back scoring four straight goals in a three minute span to take a 4-2 lead after James scored a free position goal at the 25:15 mark.

Both teams continued to battle back and forth as the half went on with only three goals separating the two clubs throughout the entire half.  Holy Family led 10-7 with less than a minute to play in the first half after James scored her third goal of the half.  With :20 seconds showing on the clock, Queens was able to cut into the Holy Family lead after Monahan scored her second goal to make the score 10-8.

In the second half, Queens got things started when freshman Julianne Lostrappo scored her first goal of the game to cut the Holy Family lead to one (10-9).  However, Holy Family responded as McNesby scored three straight goals to give the Tigers a 13-9 lead with the third goal coming at the 15:02 mark.

Later in the half, Holy Family scored another trio of consecutive goals with junior Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) capping the run at the 4:05 mark to give the Tigers their biggest lead of the game with the score 18-12 in their favor.

Queens managed to score two goals in the final minute of action but it wasn't enough as Holy Family held on to the 18-14 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made 12 saves in net for the Tigers, while her counterpart, sophomore Kahli Evans, made seven saves.

Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, March 17 as the Tigers face West Chester University in a non-conference road contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
