Indiana, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 16-6, at Miller Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Holy Family is now 0-2 overall, while IUP improves to 1-1.
Senior
Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored a team-high two goals to lead the Holy Family offense. She also recorded three ground balls. Juniors
Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., N.J./Camden Catholic),
Lauren Greco (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South), and
Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) and sophomore
Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) each scored a goal for the Tigers.
For IUP, juniors Stephanie Bianco and Becca Vogt, sophomores Alex Lodovici and Amy Rydeen and freshmen Colleen Berlin and Alex Edwards all scored two goals for the Crimson Hawks.
The Crimson Hawks controlled the game from beginning to end. IUP outscored Holy Family 10-0 in the first half and outshot the Tigers 18-6. The Crimson Hawks also controlled the draw controls winning eight compared to three won by the Tigers in the first stanza.
In the second half, the Holy Family offense came alive as the Tigers scored six goals off 13 shots. However, IUP matched the Tigers with six goals in the second half as well to secure the 16-10 victory.
Holy Family and IUP each finished with 11 ground balls and ten draw control victories.
Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, March 15 as the Tigers host Queens College in their home opener. The non-conference contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
