Softball Suffers 0-1 Walk-Off Defeat in 12 Innings in First Round of CACC Tournament

NEW CASTLE, Del. – The HFU softball team battled at two-seed Wilmington but fell just short, suffering a 0-1 walk-off defeat in 12 innings in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate conference (CACC) Tournament on Saturday.

Individual Highlights
  • Starter Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) did not allow a run in a career-high 10.1 innings
  • Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) both had two hits, with Jones tripling and doubling

How it Happened
Game One
  • A runner reached third in the third in three straight half innings to no avail, with Jones tripling in the third
  • The Tigers had runners reach scoring position in the eighth, ninth and 10th
    • Lauren Hagy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) first singled with one out and pinch-hitter Gina Olivieri (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia Charter School) sacrificed pinch runner Jaden Kelly (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) to second, but Kelly would be thrown out at the plate on a Carlie Miller (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) single
    • Jones then led off the ninth with a double but was stranded on third with one away after being moved over on a Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) groundout
    • Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) was left in scoring position after stealing second in the 10th
  • Tidaback stranded runners in scoring position in eight of the first nine frames, including yet another on third in the eighth
  • Molly Moore (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) then left runners on second and third with one out in the 11th, thanks to third baseman Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) throwing out the potential game-winning run at the plate on an attempted suicide squeeze
  • The Wildcats finally broke through in the 12th though, on a leadoff double, sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly
