PHILADELPHIA – The third-seeded Holy Family University women's basketball team won its first NCAA Tournament game in a decade, defeating sixth-seeded Assumption, 67-53, in the first round of the NCAA Division II East Regional hosted at Bentley on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers will take on second-seeded Daemen, at Bentley, in the second round tomorrow at 5 p.m., in a rematch from a game the Wildcats won 53-55 on Dec. 1.
Individual Highlights
- Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) led all players with eight rebounds and added team-highs of two steals and a block, to go along with nine points on 4-of-6 field goals to surpass 1,000 career points
- Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) had a game-high six assists and eight points
- Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) led HFU with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including making all three of her 3-point attempts
- Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) each scored 10 points
- Hinkle added seven boards, four offensive and three defensive, to move into second in the program's single-season history with 214 defensive rebounds and seventh with 96 offensive rebounds
- Riepe made two triples to move into seventh in the program's single-season history with 61 on the year
- Lola Ibarrondo (Bristol, Pa./Neshaminy) had seven points and a season-best seven boards, while Lauren Palangio (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) contributed six points on 3-for-3 shooting

How it Happened
- HFU trailed for much of the first quarter after Assumption opened with the first four points, but a Riepe 3-poiner in the final minute put the Tigers on top for good, establishing an 11-9 lead after 10 minutes of play
- The Tigers then began the second period on a 12-4 spurt, featuring five more points from Riepe, as Palangio layup completed a 15-4 stretch for the first double-digit advantage, 23-13, with 6:37 left in the first half
- The Greyhounds got as close as five twice, including at 20-25, but a Carter triple and Searfoss free throw put HFU back on top by nine, 29-20, entering the locker room
- The Tigers then opened the third quarter with the first six points, with a Prevost layup to begin the half establishing a double-digit cushion for good
