PITTSBURGH – The HFU Women's Basketball Team's historic season came to an end with a 52-57 overtime loss to second-seeded Indiana (PA) in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight hosted at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse on Tuesday afternoon.
Holy Family by five twice in the fourth quarter, including at 48-43 on an
Ella Brown (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) jumper with 4:29 to go in regulation.
The Tigers would not score in regulation again though, and the Crimson Hawks evened it up with eight seconds remaining.
With a chance at the last shot, HFU was called for an offensive foul and had to force a miss at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
In the extra period,
Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) put the Tigers ahead twice, including at 52-51 with 2:48 to play.
Indiana countered with a three-point play though, and Holy Family would not score again.
Individual Highlights
- Hinkle had nearly double the amount of rebounds as any other player with 15 and also led all players with four assists, while falling one point shy of a game-high with 19
- Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was second on the Tigers with eight points, while Brown added seven
- Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) had four assists too, while Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) led HFU with three steals

- The Tigers outshot IUP, but the Crimson Hawks had a 9-23 edge in points off turnovers and made nearly triple the amount of free throws, 4-11
How it Happened
- Holy Family was held scoreless for the opening 6:47 as Indiana poured in the first 11 points
- The Tigers tallied the next five and also got as close as six on two occasions in the second quarter, including at 17-23 on a Hinkle layup with 4:07 left in the first half
- The Crimson Hawks responded with four in a row to go back up by double-digits before Meredith closed out the scoring for a 19-27 scoreline at the break
- HFU would hold Indiana scoreless for the first 3:40 of the third period en route to outscoring the Crimson Hawks 15-6 in the quarter
- Back-to-back Searfoss baskets sparked eight unanswered as a Lauren Palangio (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) 3-pointer put the Tigers ahead for the first time, 31-30, with 2:55 left in the third
- The game was played within a single possession until a Meredith triple and Hinkle bucket established a 46-41 advantage with 5:44 to go
