PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University baseball team defeated Davis & Elkins 12-1 on Friday, as the Tigers continued their spring break trip down in Florida.
Davis & Elkins (Friday) (12-1 Win)
Holy Family jumped on the Senators with a four-run first on two-RBI singles by both
Dylan Mercedes (Washington Heights, N.Y./St. Raymonds (Mansfield University)) and
Nick Lombardo (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)).
That began a performance in which Mercedes went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBI.
That was more than enough run support for
Casey Murphy (Merion Station, Pa./Lower Merion (Ursinus College)), who earned the complete game win after scattering eight hits, with four strikeouts, over seven innings.
Devon de Vera (Goodyear, Ariz./Broomfield (Chandler-Gilbert CC)) also had three hits, with two runs and two RBI, while
Emidio Bucci (Gambrills, Md./Loyola Blakefield (York College)) finished a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs.
Dalton Turner (Langorne, Pa./Neshaminy (Bucks County CC)) went 2-for-3 with a double, base on balls and two runs, while
Isaac Criss (Grove City, Pa./Grove City (Bucks County CC)) reached three times via two walks and a hit.
Lombardo drove in three runs.
Ashland (Friday) (3-12 Loss)
A four-run first would be all Ashland would need.
Ian Malone (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne (Desales University)) pitched 3.1 innings of relief in which he allowed just one run on two hits.
Chris Serrano (Kissimmee, Fla./Elevation Prep (St. Petersburg College)) scored once and drove in another as he finished with a hit and a walk.
Wayne State Game One (Saturday) (2-8 Loss)
The Tigers opened the scoring on a
Will Cheatham (Brooklyn, N.Y./IMG Academy (Glendale CC)) sacrifice fly in the first, but Wayne State plated the next eight.
Jon Martinez (Camden, N.J./Timber Creek Regional (Camden CC)) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and RBI, while
Brian Comer (Charlotte, N.C./Independence (Bucks County CC)) finished 2-for-4 with a double and run.
Starter
Ricky Glascock (Waretown, N.J./Southern Regional (RCGC)) surrendered four hits in four frames, giving up just one earned run.
Wayne State Game Two (Saturday) (5-12 Loss)
Holy Family responded to a two-run first with four in the bottom-half as the first five Tigers reached, highlighted by a Martinez RBI double and a
Zach Morales (Barrington, N.J./Triton Regional (PSU-Abington)) RBI single.
A
Gino Serechia (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton (Shepherd University)) bases loaded walk capped the four-run inning, but the Warriors came back with nine in the second.
Lombardo reached three times as he went 1-for-1 with two base on balls.
Christian Culver (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman (Bucks County CC)) pitched brilliantly in relief, allowing no earned runs over 5.1 frames as he surrendered five hits with five strikeouts against one walk.
