Philadelphia, Pa. - Holy Family Athletics is proud to announce that the following student-athletes were recently recognized by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education as 2022 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award winners:
Korryn Braxton-Young (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) (women's track & field),
Kimoya Henry-Ellis (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) (women's track& field);
Noah Chinye (Largo, Md./Skylight HS (Prince George's CC)) (men's track & field),
Akim Cobham (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) ( men's track& field),
Vernon Johnson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) (men's basketball), and Shania LeMaitre (women's track & field). Both Chinye and LeMaitre were named to the first team in their respective sports. Cobham and Johnson were named to the second team in their respective sports, and both Braxton-Young and Henry-Ellis were named to the third team for women's track and field. The announcement was made in the April 28, 2022 edition of the publication.
Diverse: Issues In Higher Education sponsors the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards to honor students of color who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. The award is inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr., who demonstrated a strong commitment to education as and high achievement and love for the game of tennis. In order to be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5, be at least a sophomore academically and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
