Covington Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District® Team

Philadelphia, Pa. – Holy Family University senior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) was named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Team, selected by CoSIDA, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon. The Academic All-District® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

As a First-team Academic All-District® honoree, Covington advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.

Covington boasts a 3.67 cumulative grade point average and is a Neuroscience major. She's a two-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Academic selection and was among 40 Holy Family student-athletes inducted into the Pennsylvania Psi Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, for the 2020-21 academic year this past March.

It was a unique year capped with a championship banner for Covington and the women's volleyball team. With the traditional fall season cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the team competed in an abbreviated spring season in which the Tigers finished 8-1 overall.

Holy Family went 5-1 in conference play to earn the second seed in the CACC Tournament. The Tigers cruised through the first two rounds of the postseason before defeating Georgian Court University, 3-1, in the CACC Finals to claim the program's second title in three seasons.

Covington was named the Most Valuable Player of the CACC Tournament as she totaled a season-high 18 kills and 19 digs versus the Lions. She averaged 4.5 kills and 4.2 digs per set throughout the postseason. During the regular season, Covington once again averaged over 3.0 kills and 3.0 digs per set. She finished the spring season with averages of 3.55 kills and 3.03 digs.

Covington currently ranks fifth all-time with 1,173 and is eighth all-time with 1,186 career digs. She is one of four student-athletes in program history that has recorded over 1,000 kills and digs in a career.

Covington is the first women's volleyball student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors since former standout Sarah Ambach earned the award in 2013. Ambach was a three-time Academic All-District® selection and was named an Academic All-American® in 2013.
