Hall of Fame Honoree: Melissa Zebley '04

Holy Family University will be inducting five new members into its Athletics Hall of Fame this coming Friday at The Buck Hotel.  All this week we'll highlight each honoree leading up to Friday night's induction ceremony.  Our next honoree is former softball standout Melissa Zebley '04.

MELISSA ZEBLEY (2000-2004)

SB - Melissa Zebley CardOne of the most clutch hitters in program history, Zebley is just one of two players to record 200-plus career hits.  She graduated as the team's all-time leader in hits with 205 and now is currently second in the program's record book.  Zebley is filtered through the Holy Family record book ranking first in doubles (48), at-bats (599) and games played (184), second in total bases (286), third in runs scored (127) and ninth in triples (6).  Zebley is a three-time All-CACC selection earning first team honors in 2002 and 2003 and second team recognition her senior year in 2004.  That year Holy Family advanced to the program's first CACC Title game.  In addition to her softball accolades, Zebley was also a standout volleyball player earning All-CACC honors in 2003 (2nd team) and 2004 (first team).  She was the first player in the program's history to earn All-CACC recognition.  Zebley was part of the program's inaugural team in 2003 and in two seasons totaled 862 digs and 110 service aces.

Q1: What was your initial reaction when you were told you were going to be inducted into the Holy Family Hall of Fame?
"My initial reaction when I was told I was going to be inducted in to the Hall of Fame was shock. I was told so many times over the years how deserving I was and the player I was, but to actually be inducted is amazing! Shock because 17 years later, I had no idea I had records that I do at Holy Family, shock because I never put myself above others in deserving of the recognition like this. And HUMBLED and Honored to receive the recognition. Truly truly honored. And of course I can't leave out excited. Talking about my time and years at Holy Family playing softball and then volleyball was very nostalgic!"

Q2: What does it mean to you to be part of Holy Family's history and a future Hall of Fame member?
"Being apart of the Hall of Fame for Holy Family especially for softball truly means the world to me. Softball was my life! Holy Family was a big big part of my life. I worked extremely hard before Holy Family to be recruited and then to be apart of a reputable program, one of the tops in the years I attended for softball is truly amazing! It a piece of history that will forever be apart of Holy Family."

Q3: What was your favorite moment at Holy Family?
"It's so hard to pinpoint a game or a specific memory that is my favorite moment. I truly enjoyed every single practice and game, every single tournament we were apart of, and all the spring trainings. I will never ever forget that feeling, that moment, my senior year, my last time I stepped on the softball field as a player. It was at Caldwell, again, it wasn't the outcome we wanted, but it was the final game as a holy family softball player. So what I'm trying to say is I truly enjoyed every moment I got to step on the field, never took it for granted. I never missed a game, ever. I also enjoyed hanging out with all fellow athletes and supporting every team!"

Q4: What message do you have for current and future student-athletes that want to continue their education and athletic careers at Holy Family?
"My advice for those who want to attend or be apart of the Holy family softball program is just to be you, work hard, maintain the grades in the classroom because honestly the classroom and grades are the most important part of being Well rounded student athlete, practice, and practice some more. You are never too good to improve! Current athletes-you are apart of an amazing program. 2000-2004, whatever records I may still hold-work hard and break them!!!! Records are meant to be broken! Strive for greatness! And lastly, never think your better then the next-someone right now is out working hard and out practicing to take your spot! As a freshman I came in and proved myself, earned my spot and never ever stopped for 4 years earning my spot. HFU pride always!"
