Tigers Set to Tip-Off Season at American Int'l

11/8/2019 12:00:00 AM

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team is about to embark on a new season as the Tigers open the 2019-20 campaign on Saturday at American International College inside Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and fans can watch live by clicking, here. Holy Family will then face Franklin Pierce University on Sunday afternoon with game time versus the Ravens set for 12 p.m.

All-Time Series
Holy Family and AIC will be meeting for the 10th time since 2007.  The Tigers are 2-7 versus the Yellow Jackets all-time.  The two teams have met five times over the last four seasons with Holy Family winning last year's match up, 75-73 in overtime.  Holy Family and Franklin Pierce will be facing one another for the first time.

New Era
It's a new era in Holy Family basketball as long-time assistant coach Ryan Haigh was elevated to head coach this past summer becoming the fifth head coach in program history.  Haigh spent the previous eight seasons on the Tigers' bench as the team's top assistant.  A graduate of Holy Family, Haigh earned All-CACC honors twice during his playing career and still currently ranks fifth all-time with 1,679 career points.  Joining Haigh on the bench this year are assistant coaches Willis Wareham, Chuck Ellis and Turhan Griffin.  Click here to read more about the coaching staff.

2019-20 CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll
Holy Family finished tied for fourth place in the annual CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll with city rival University of the Sciences.  Both the Tigers and Devils each received 48 points in the poll.  The South Division favorite is another familiar face in the City of Brotherly Love as Jefferson led with 90 points and 12 first-place votes.  In the North Division, Dominican College finished on top with 88 points and 11 first-place votes.

Where We Left Off
The last time we saw the Tigers was in the CACC Quarterfinals as the Tigers qualified for the postseason for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Holy Family suffered a 71-59 loss to second-seeded Dominican. The Tigers finished 14-13 overall last season and 10-9 in conference play earning the third seed out of the South Division.

Top Returners
The Tigers return four players from last year's roster, including seniors Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) and Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)).  Aughburns is the top returner in scoring and rebounding from a year ago as he averaged 14.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.  Dalessandro averaged 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in his first year with the Tigers. Also returning is sophomore Kharon Randolph (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School) who started all 27 games for the Tigers in his first season of collegiate action.  Randolph averaged 11.1 points and 3.4 assists per game.  Sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) appeared in 19 games with one start in his rookie season as he averaged 4.9 points per game.
