Tigers Shutdown New Haven, 2-0

BOX SCORE

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 victory over visiting the University of New Haven in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Holy Family improves to 1-1-0 overall with the victory, while New Haven is now 0-2-0 on the young season.

Senior Keith Crews (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored the games first goal in the 25th minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 first half lead.  Crews took a pass from sophomore Justin Hiltwine (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and went across the baseline before letting off a shot that found the back of the net towards the upper right portion of the goal.

The score marked Crews' second goal in as many games.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Tigers until minutes into the second half.  Junior Aiah Mbriwa (Abington, Pa./Philmont Christian Academy) tallied his first goal of the season after breaking away from the New Haven defense.  Mbriwa beat the New Haven goalie one-on-one to double the Tigers lead at 2-0 in the 48th minute.

Hiltwine was credited with the assist on the play leading Mbriwa through the defense.

Holy Family went on to keep New Haven off the board the final 42 minutes of the half to record the team's first shutout victory of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made five saves after facing 11 shots by New Haven.  Ongaro also stopped a penalty shot attempt by Oscar Johannesson in the 62nd minute to halt a possible rally by the Chargers.  It was also Ongaro's second career shutout with the Tigers.

Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 10 as the Tigers travel to face Dowling College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
