WATERBURY, Conn. – Appearing in its fifth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Semifinal in seven seasons, the fifth-seeded HFU Men's Soccer Team was defeated by top-seed Post, 0-3, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles opened the scoring on the first attempt on net in the 19th minute, before adding two more goals in the final 6:41.
After two
Bruno Mestres (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Mackenzie Tambore) saves sandwiched a Luiz Rechhimuzzi shot on frame in the 40th minute to send the match to the half at 0-1, the Tigers pushed for an equalizer in the second.
Holy Family recorded seven of the first eight attempts out of the break, with both
Jesus Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Artica) and
Ricardo Paniccia Giraldez (O Porriño, Spain/IES Pino Manso) being denied an equalizer, before Post added insurance via the penalty spot.
The Tigers would outshoot the Eagles 13-12 over the course of the 90 minutes, with both teams registering four corner kicks.
Recchimuzzi led all players with three attempts, while Panicia Giraldez had a match-high two on target.
Mestres made three saves.
