WILMINGTON BOX SCORE
BLOOMFIELD BOX SCORE

Lakewood, N.J. - The Holy Family University softball team has advanced to day two of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament after splitting a pair of games on day one action of the tournament on Friday afternoon on the Georgian Court University Softball Fields.

Holy Family, seeded fourth in this year's tournament, dropped its opener by the score of 4-2 to fifth-seeded Wilmington University.  The Tigers avoided elimination with a 2-1 victory over eighth-seeded Bloomfield College.

Holy Family is now 27-15 overall and will face second-seeded Georgian Court University to open day two of the tournament on Saturday morning.  The Tigers face the Lions at 9:00 a.m.

#5 Wilmington 4, #4 Holy Family 2

In the opener, Wilmington jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring in the first two innings.  A two-run home run by freshman Colby Wyatt off starting pitcher, freshman Amanda Paredes (Moorpark, Calif./Thousand Oaks), gave the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage.

The Wildcats tacked on another run in the second inning after freshman Becca Stanley tripled to left-center field driving in junior Michelle Panasiti to make the score 3-0.

Paredes (6-4) lasted 1.2 innings before being lifted for senior Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman).  Paredes allowed three runs (2 earned) off four hits, while striking out one batter.  Alligood went 4.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits.  She struck out two and issued a pair of walks.

Holy Family cut into the Wilmington lead in the third inning thanks to two run scoring hits by senior Erin Corrado (Fair Hill, Md./St. Mark's (Del.)) and sophomore Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel).  Corrado drove in redshirt senior Danielle McDevitt (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) with a double to center field, before Casey drove her in with a single down the leftfield line.  The two clutch hits made the score 3-2.

Casey finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate, while McDevitt led the Tigers with three hits (3-4).

However, that would be the final run allowed by senior pitcher Stephanie Harris (13-8) as the Wildcats edged the Tigers by two runs.  Wilmington added an insurance run in the sixth inning.

Harris earned the victory and allowed two runs off seven hits in a complete-game effort.  She also struck out five batters.

#4 Holy Family 2, #8 Bloomfield 1

Holy Family avoided elimination in its second game on the afternoon as the Tigers eliminated Bloomfield with a 2-1 victory.  Freshman pitcher Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) (12-3) picked up her team-leading 12th victory of the season as she held the Deacons scoreless for the first five-plus innings.

Walters allowed just one run in the complete-game performance as she struck out eight batters.

Holy Family broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning as Casey continued her hot hitting from earlier in the afternoon.  Casey singled up the middle to score senior Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Holy Family doubled its lead one inning later when Corrado came through with her second run-scoring hit of the afternoon.  Corrado singled to right-center scoring Borrelli for her second run of the game.

Borrelli and Paredes each finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers.

The Deacons scored their lone run of the game in the sixth inning when freshman Hailey Marini doubled to left-center scoring senior Toni Coleman.

Freshman Kirsten Wilson received the loss as she went the distance for the Deacons.  She allowed two runs on eight hits, while striking out seven.

Holy Family continues its quest for a conference championship as the Tigers begin day two against host Georgian Court (9 a.m.).  The winner will advance to face the winner of the #6 Dominican College/#1 Caldwell College contest at 1 p.m.
