GAME TWO BOX SCORE
Bloomfield, N.J. - Freshman
Amanda Paredes (Moorpark, Calif./Thousand Oaks) pitched a complete game shutout to help the Holy Family University softball team salvage a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with Bloomfield College on Saturday afternoon. The Deacons took the early game by the score of 2-0, while the Tigers responded with a shutout of their own in game two, 3-0.
Â
Holy Family is now 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the CACC, while Bloomfield is now 10-6 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
Â
Paredes (3-0) earned her third victory of the season after pitching seven scoreless innings in game two. Paredes scattered five hits and struck out a season-high seven batters.
Â
Sophomore
Alicia Alvarado (Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete) highlighted the afternoon offensively for the Tigers as she finished a combined 3-for-4 at the plate. She also drew a walk to finish the afternoon with a .800 on-base percentage.
Â
Game One: Bloomfield 2, Holy Family 0
Â
In the opener, freshman Kirsten Wilson held Holy Family to just three hits as the Deacons came away with a 2-0 victory. Wilson fanned ten batters and allowed only five base runners the entire game.
Â
Wilson received all the offensive support she would need in the third inning when junior Angela Hause scored freshman Aubrey Orr on a groundout to second base. The run gave the Deacons a 1-0 and the score remained that way until the fifth when Bloomfield added an insurance run.
Â
Junior Veronica Cobos gave the Deacons some breathing room with a run scoring double to make the score 2-0 after five innings.
Â
Holy Family threatened in the top half of the seventh after getting the first two batters on base. Senior
AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) led the inning off with a single, while senior
Hayley Brennan (Frankford, Del./Indian River) reached base after being hit with a pitch.
Â
However, Wilson struck out the next two batters and then forced a groundout to end the inning halting the Tigers potential comeback.
Freshman
Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) (2-2) received the hard-luck loss as she went six innings allowing two runs off five hits. She also struck out four batters on the afternoon.
Â
Alvarado led the Tigers with a pair of hits going 2-for-2 at the plate.
Â
Game Two: Holy Family 3, Bloomfield 0
Â
In game two, it was the Tigers' turn to shutdown the Bloomfield offense as Paredes limited the Deacons to only five hits the entire game.Â
Â
The Tigers' offense gave Paredes enough offense later in the game to preserve the shutout victory. Sophomore
Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) drove in the game's first run in the fourth inning scoring Corrado who led the inning off with a single.
Â
Holy Family tacked on two more runs an inning later as the Tigers capitalized off an error by the Deacons. With runners at first and third, Corrado reached on an error by the pitcher, which scored freshman
Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon). Scotto singled earlier in the inning and advanced to third after a base hit by sophomore
Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel).
Â
Later in the inning, junior
Kristy Tomlinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) delivered a base hit to score senior
Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) who was pinch-ran for Casey. Borrelli's run gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead with nine outs remaining.
Â
Paredes went on to allow only two base runners in the final three frames to secure the shutout victory for the Tigers.
Â
Holy Family is back in action on Sunday, March 23 as the Tigers travel to face Molloy College in a non-conference doubleheader. The twin bill with the Lions will cap six games in three days for the Tigers. Game one is slated for 12 p.m.
