BOX SCORE
Philadelphia, Pa. - Sophomore
Kevin McCollick (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) scored the game's only goal as the Holy Family University men's soccer team managed to hold on to a 1-0 victory over visiting Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Â
Holy Family improves to 5-7-1 overall and 5-4-0 in the CACC, while Chestnut Hill is now 5-7-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference action.
Â
A shot on goal by sophomore
Aiah Mbriwa (Abington, Pa./Philmont Christian Academy) set up McCollick's second score of the season. Mbriwa managed to get a shot off inside the box but Chestnut Hill freshman goalkeeper James Jackson made a diving save. However, Jackson was unable to corral the ball allowing McCollick to drive home the rebounded ball towards the lower right portion of the net.
Â
Jackson finished the game with four saves after facing 11 shots by the Tigers.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made seven stops in net for Holy Family as he recorded his first shutout of the season. Ongaro faced 16 shots by the Griffins, including 13 in the second half.
Â
Chestnut Hill had a chance to possibly tie the game in the final seconds after a yellow card was issued to the Tigers. With less than ten seconds to play in regulation, Chestnut Hill had an indirect kick just outside the box but Ongaro made the save on the shot attempt by junior Juan Amaya to secure the victory.
Â
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19 as the Tigers host Caldwell College in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 2:30 p.m. Â
