Newark, Del. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Wilmington University after defeating the Wildcats by the score of 80-56 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday night at the Wilmington Athletics Complex.
Holy Family, ranked eighth in the recent USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, improves to 18-2 overall and 12-1 in conference play. The win marked the Tigers sixth straight victory. Wilmington is now 3-17 overall and 1-12 in the CACC.
Senior
Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led the Tigers with a game-high 19 points after shooting nearly perfect from the field as she knocked down eight of her nine shot attempts. Mann also grabbed six boards and blocked one shot. Junior
Mary Ellen McCollum (Abington, Pa./St. Basil Academy) tallied eight points and dished out five assists, while freshman
Erin Fenningham (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil Academy) added a career-high eight points.
Senior
Ana Cruz (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) contributed seven points, while freshman
Sarah Listenbee (Abington, Pa./Abington) added six points after shooting 3-of-4 from the field. Junior
Katie Duma (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) also scored six points (2-2FG) for the Tigers. Senior
Kelly Brady (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) led to the team with eight rebounds to go along with five points.
For Wilmington, senior Danielle Thomas and sophomore Tashea Plummer each scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Wildcats' offense. Junior Lauren Brown also scored in double-figures with ten points.
Holy Family quickly mounted a double-digit lead as the Tigers led 21-9 at the 12:04 mark of the first half. However, a 10-0 run by Wilmington cut the Tigers' lead to 21-19 after a jumper by Plummer (7:28).
The Tigers responded to the run by the Wildcats and went on to outscore the home team 16-6 the final 7:28 of the half to lead 37-25.
In the second half, Holy Family opened with a 9-1 run to take a 20-point advantage after a layup by Mann made the score 46-26 at the 16:15 mark of the half. Holy Family maintained its large advantage throughout the rest of the half and led by as many as 30 points with less than two minutes to play. A layup by Listenbee made the score 76-46.
The Holy Family offense shot nearly 60.0-percent (16-27) from the field in the second half and finished the game shooting 51.8-percent. The Tigers also controlled the boards outrebounding the Wildcats, 46-32.
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2 as the Tigers travel to face Post University in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
