Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior
Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) scored 16 second-half points to help lift the Holy Family University women's basketball team past visiting Goldey-Beacom College by the score of 47-43 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Thursday night at the Campus Center Gym.
Holy Family, ranked 14
th in the recent USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, improves to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in the CACC. With the win, Holy Family improves to 7-0 at home this season. Goldey-Beacom is now 10-8 overall and 7-2 in conference action.
Mann recorded her sixth double-double of the season after scoring a team-high 18 points and grabbing a game-high ten rebounds to lead the Holy Family offense. Mann scored 16 of her 18 points and collected all ten rebounds in the second half after sitting out a majority of the first half due to foul trouble.
Junior
Maggie Serratelli (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) finished with nine points off the bench for the Tigers and shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Senior
Kelly Brady (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) came away with eight rebounds and contributed four points.
For Goldey-Beacom, redshirt-senior Jacinda Jones led all scorers with 22 points after shooting 6-of-9 from the field. Jones knocked down five shots from beyond the arc (5-8). Senior Irene Hudson recorded a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.
Both teams struggled in the first half to find rhythm offensively as Goldey-Beacom held a 17-12-halftime lead. Holy Family shot 2-of-23 from the field, while Goldey-Beacom shot a slightly better 6-of-25.
In the second half, it was Goldey-Beacom that took the game's biggest lead. The Lightning used an 18-9 run after leading 17-16 with 16:59 to play in the second half to take the game's first double-digit lead. A three-point play by Jones gave Goldey-Beacom a 35-25 lead with 9:52 remaining in regulation.
However, Holy Family quickly erased the Lightning's lead as the Tigers rallied with a 13-3 run to tie the game at 38-38 after senior
Ana Cruz (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) drained a three-pointer at the 4:25 mark.
Holy Family would then regain the lead for the first time since leading 3-0 in the first half after Serratelli converted a pair of free throws to make the score 42-40 with 2:55 to play.
Goldey-Beacom tied the game at 42-42 two possessions later with a jumper by senior Ashley Rosario. However, on the ensuing Holy Family possession, Serratelli was fouled and once again converted a pair of free throws to give the Tigers the lead for good this time at 44-42 with 1:44 left on the clock.
The Holy Family defense limited Goldey-Beacom to 0-for-3 shooting the rest of the way to preserve the victory. The Tigers also forced a key turnover with a minute to play after Goldey-Beacom came within one point after splitting a pair of free throws.
Holy Family shot 11-of-28 from the field in the second half and converted 11-of-18 from the free throw line. The Tigers finished the game shooting 19-of-33 from the charity stripe, while the Lightning shot 10-of-17.
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 12 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
