Freitas Explodes for Four Goals as Tigers Defeat Caldwell, 4-3

BOX SCORE

Caldwell, N.J. - Senior forward Dodji Freitas (Philadelphia, Pa. (Togo)//Samuel Fels) scored a career-high four goals as the Holy Family University men's soccer team defeated Caldwell College, 4-3, in the team's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family improves to 2-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play, while Caldwell falls to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 to start CACC action.

Freitas, who scored four goals all of last season, scored his first of four goals in the seventh minute of action to give Holy Family a 1-0 advantage.  Junior Ahmed Elgayar (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) assisted on the play as Freitas scored from ten-yards out.

Less than :30 seconds later, Caldwell responded with its first goal of the game as senior Facundo Zalazar scored his first of two goals on the day to tie the game at 1-1.

Zalazar would strike again later in the half to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead in the 22nd minute.

As the half progressed, Holy Family would eventually tie the game at 2-2 when Freitas received a pass from freshman Aiah Mbriwa (Abington, Pa./Philmont Christian Academy) to score from 15-yards out in the 27th minute.  Minutes later, it was déjà vu as Freitas again scored from 15-yards out off a pass from Mbriwa to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Tigers.

Holy Family maintained its lead through halftime and into the second half, however Caldwell once again tied the game, this time though from a goal by sophomore Dylan Ross in the 56th minute.  Ross' goal tied the game at 3-3.

The score would remain tied until the 74th minute when Freitas controlled a loose ball and scored from 18-yards out to make the score 4-3.  Freitas' goal turned out to be the game-winner as Holy Family kept Caldwell off the scoreboard the final 15-plus minutes of action.

Senior goalkeeper Kelly Diaz (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park) made four stops in net for the Tigers.

Despite the loss, Caldwell managed to hold the edge on overall shots (15-8) and corner kicks (6-2) throughout the game.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 11 as the Tigers host the University of the District of Columbia in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
