Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team came up short in the team's first home contest of the season as the Tigers dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match to the University of the Sciences by the score of 3-1 Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gym.
Holy Family is now 2-12 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while USciences improves to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the CACC.
Holy Family won the first set by the score of 25-21 to take an early lead in the match, however the Devils came soaring back and won the next three sets to clinch the match. The Devils won by the scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-20.
Freshman
Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) and junior
Sarah Ambach (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) led the Holy Family attack. Both players recorded double-figures in kills as Johnson finished with a match-high 12 kills, while Ambach tallied 11. Johnson also had three service aces.
Sophomore
Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) contributed nine kills for the Tigers to go along with six digs. Senior
Cara Przybylowicz (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) and freshman
Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) each added seven kills. Junior
Chelsea Keegan (Bucyrus, Ohio/Colonel Crawford) finished with 41 assists and six digs. Freshman
Madi Mcshane (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) led the Tigers with 18 digs.
For the Devils, sophomore Amanda DeAngelo and freshman Caitlyn Crawford combined for 22 kills. Crawford finished with a match-high 12 kills, while DeAngelo tallied 10. Crawford also had four solo blocks and assisted on three others. Sophomore Kaileen Bevenour had 29 assists to go along with seven digs, while senior Stacey Wooden finished with 19 digs.
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 22 as the Tigers travel to Post University for a CACC contest. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
