Bloomsburg, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Bloomsburg University by the scores of 7-1 and 2-1 Sunday afternoon on the road.
Holy Family is now 17-21 overall, while Bloomsburg improves to 30-10 on the season.
Sophomores
Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) and
Erin Corrado (Fair Hill, Md./St. Mark's (Del.)) each finished 2-for-6 on the afternoon. In addition, both players accounted for the Tigers two runs. Borrelli had a run-scoring hit in game one, while Corrado came through with a RBI hit in game two.
Junior
Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North) also went 2-for-6 against Bloomsburg as she collected her first triple of the season. Senior
Bianca Robinson (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek) also had a pair of hits (2-7), including a double.
Game One: Bloomsburg 7, Holy Family 1 -

In game one, Bloomsburg took advantage of five Holy Family errors to take the opener by the score of 7-1. The Huskies scored three runs in the bottom-half of the second inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Sophomore Hannah Moir had an RBI single to highlight the inning as Bloomsburg scored its other two runs after a pair of errors by the Tigers.
Holy Family finally got to starting pitcher junior Cait Paine in the top-half of the sixth inning after Borrelli singled to center field scoring freshman
Kelsi Bunda (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) who reached on an error. Bunda's run made the score 3-1 as the Tigers came within two runs of the Huskies lead.
However, in the bottom part of the inning Bloomsburg added four insurance runs to make the score 7-1. Three early errors by the Tigers helped fuel the inning for the Huskies. Sophomore Rachel Fredell capped the inning with a two-run single.
Paine would go on to retire the Tigers in order in the seventh to close out the game as she picked up her 19
th victory of the season (19-6). Paine went the distance and scattered three hits, while allowing one unearned run. She also struck out 11 batters.
Game Two: Bloomsburg 2, Holy Family 1 -

In the later game, Bloomsburg scored to runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete the sweep against Holy Family.
Freshman
Sarah Chilutti (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (L, 4-6) and sophomore Mandi Black (W, 7-4) pitched scoreless innings for the majority of the game. It wasn't until the sixth inning when the game's first run was scored. In the top-half of the inning, Borrelli reached on an error to begin the inning for Holy Family.
Borrelli would eventually advance to third after a single by Iden, who also moved into scoring position as she ran to second on the throw by Bloomsburg in an attempt to get Borrelli out at third. With two runners in scoring position, Corrado came through with a run scoring single to left field to give Holy Family a 1-0 advantage.
Black would go on to retire the next to batters to avoid any further damage by the Tigers.
The score remained 1-0 heading into the final inning. Junior Raychelle Kuhns led the seventh off with a single to center field. Sophomore Mandi Baer, then followed with a triple to right field scoring Kuhns to tie the game at 1-1.
Two batters later senior Sam Pientack delivered a base hit to center field driving in Baer to give the Huskies the walk-off victory.
Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, April 17 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC doubleheader. Game one is slated for 3:00 p.m.
