Tigers Pick Up Conference Victory With 3-1 Win Over Concordia

BOX SCORE

Bronxville, N.Y. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team scored two first half goals on its way to a 3-1 victory at Concordia College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon in Bronxville, N.Y.

Holy Family improves to 7-5-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play, while Concordia falls to 5-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in CACC action.

Holy Family scored early in the first half to take the first lead of the game in the 8th minute.  Junior Alex Bilay (Philadelphia, Pa. (Ukraine)/Central) scored his first career goal at Holy Family after heading the ball into the back of the net off a throw in by junior Ira Woodruff (Philadelphia, Pa./North Catholic)

Later in the half, the Tigers doubled their lead when senior Dodji Freitas (Philadelphia, Pa. (Togo)//Samuel Fels) tallied his conference leading 13th goal of the season in the 22nd minute.  Freitas received a pass from fellow classmate Jeefrey Wimsey and shot from point blank range as the ball hit off the Concordia goalie into the back of the net for the score.

In the second half, Bilay tallied his second goal of the game to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.  In the 56th minute, Bilay connected on a shot from 30-yards out for his second score.

Concordia would eventually upset the Tigers' shutout bid as Victor Ruiz converted a penalty kick shot in the 72nd minute.  The score by Ruiz cut the Holy Family lead to 3-1.  Despite the late goal, that would be as close as the Clippers would get as the Tigers held on to the two-score victory.

Senior goalkeeper Kelly Diaz (Palisades Park, N.J./Palisades Park) made three saves in net for the Tigers after facing 14 shots by the Clippers.

Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 18 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a CACC contest.  Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
