Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team picked up a 3-2 victory over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon.
Holy Family improves to 4-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 1-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference action.
Holy Family jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after freshman Nicolas Delgado (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored his third goal of the season in the eighth minute of action. Delgado headed the ball into the back of the net off a throw in pass from sophomore Ahmed Elgayar (Philadelphia, Pa./Central).
As the half progressed, Dominican tied the game in the 39th minute with a goal from Jorge Zubillaga to tie the game at 1-1.
However, with minutes remaining in the first half, Dominican gave Holy Family its second goal as the ball trickled into the Chargers own goal in the 43rd minute. The Tigers led 2-1 entering halftime.
Dominican responded in the second half with a goal from Sony Narro in the 60th minute to tie the game at 2-2.
Minutes later, senior Seydou Ba (Philadelphia, Pa. (Mauritania)/John Bartram) tallied his sixth goal of the season in the 64th minute to give Holy Family a 3-2 lead. Junior Jeffrey Wimsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) assisted on the play.
Holy Family maintained the 3-2 advantage the rest of regulation to secure the victory.
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, September 20 as the Tigers travel to face Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
