Newtown, Pa. -
The Holy Family University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against visiting Concordia College at Helen Randle Park Monday afternoon.  Concordia took game one by the score of 6-1, while Holy Family bounced back in game two with a 5-2 victory.

Holy Family is now 12-28 overall and 9-15 in the CACC, while Concordia is now 23-12 overall and 18-6 in conference play.

In the later game, Holy Family jumped out to an early lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.  The Tigers began the inning with three straight hits and as the inning progressed had all three runners cross home plate.  Freshman Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) recorded a two-out single scoring sophomore Danielle McDevitt (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown).  Junior Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North) followed and came through with a two-run single to cap the first inning rally.

Holy Family increased its lead to 5-0 in the bottom half of the second inning when junior Cassandra Fitzgerald-Black (Whitby, Ontario/Fr. Leo J. Austin C.S.S.) recorded a two-out two-run single scoring freshman AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) and junior Bianca Robinson (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek).  Robinson was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs in the game two victory.

Freshman pitcher Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) maintained the lead for Holy Family throughout the game as she recorded the complete game victory.  Alligood scattered seven hits and allowed only two runs (one earned), while striking out three to pick up her seventh win of the year (7-9).

Alligood also pitched 3.1 innings in game one before being lifted in the fourth inning.  She finished the doubleheader with 10.1 innings, 10 hits, four runs (two earned) and seven strikeouts.

In game one, Holy Family struck first scoring the game's first run in the bottom half of the third inning after Borrelli drove in freshman Valerie Miller (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) who led the inning off with a single.

However, Concordia responded in the top half of the fourth with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead.  Junior Angela D'Amico and sophomore Kristina Patrocinio each recorded run scoring singles.  In the fifth inning, the Clippers tacked on another two runs this time with an RBI single by senior Alexa Rosella and an RBI double by D'Amico.  D'Amico finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Concordia would add two more runs in top half of the seventh inning as the Clippers went on to the 6-1 victory.  Senior Jillian Maselli picked up her fifth win of the season as she scattered five hits in seven innings of work, while surrendering just one run.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, May 3 as the Tigers travel to face Chestnut Hill College in the team's regular season finale.  Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
