Philadelphia, Pa. -
The Holy Family University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with the University of the Sciences and then dropped a rescheduled conference match up with Nyack at McNeil Field Sunday.

The University of the Sciences took game one of the doubleheader with a 4-0-shutout victory, while Holy Family responded with a shutout in game two by the score of 3-0.  The Tigers then faced Nyack in a rescheduled game from April 16.  The Warriors came through with a 3-0 victory.

Holy Family is now 11-27 overall and 8-14 in conference play, while the University of the Sciences wraps up the regular season at 10-30 overall and 8-18 in the CACC and Nyack concludes the regular season at 9-34 overall and 7-19 in conference.

In game two against the Devils, freshman Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) lifted the Tigers to a 3-0 victory as she pitched a complete game shutout.  Borrelli limited the Devils to only three hits, while striking out one batter.  She retired the final ten batters to pick up her second win of the season.

Holy Family scored the game's first run in the top half of the third inning when junior Cassandra Fitzgerald-Black (Whitby, Ontario/Fr. Leo J. Austin C.S.S.) came through with an RBI single scoring sophomore Danielle McDevitt (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) who led the inning off with a base hit. McDevitt finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate to go along with a run and RBI.

Holy Family tacked on two more runs in the top half of the sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead.  Sophomore Deanna Myers (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and McDevitt had back-to-back run scoring hits in the inning.  Myers doubled to right field scoring Borrelli, while McDevitt followed with a single to drive in Myers.

In game one, sophomore Julie Shaw pitched seven innings of shutout ball to give the University of the Sciences a 4-0 victory. Shaw scattered seven hits, while striking out two to finish the season with her third win of the year.

The Devils scored two runs in the bottom half of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead after drawing to walks with the bases loaded.  They also tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make the score 4-0.

McDevitt and freshman AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) each went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Borrelli finished 2-for-3 for the Tigers.

Against Nyack, freshman pitcher Kia Jelley carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the Warriors.  With two outs in the inning, sophomore Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North) singled to right field to break up the no-hitter.  Myers then walked which placed the potential tying run at the plate, however, Jelley was able to retire the final batter to secure the 3-0 victory for Nyack.  Jelley finished with six strikeouts.

With the bases loaded in the top half of the fourth inning, Nyack's Kathleen McClain came through with a two-run single to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.  Nyack scored another run in the top half of the sixth when Jelley scored on a wild pitch.

Freshman pitcher Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) went the distance for the Tigers as she limited the Warriors to only two hits but issued five walks in the loss.  She surrendered three runs (two earned) in seven innings and recorded three strikeouts.

Holy Family is back in action on Monday, May 2 as the Tigers host Concordia College in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
