Women’s Basketball Defeats Georgian Court, 84-41

Carr Moves into Third Place on All-Time Scoring List and Coach Miller Records 100th Career Victory

Philadelphia, Pa. - It was a record setting night as the Holy Family University women's basketball team defeated Georgian Court University, 84-41, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at the Campus Center Wednesday night.

Holy Family, ranked 18th in the recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll and second in the NCAA Division II East Region Poll, improves to 16-3 overall and 13-1 in the CACC. Tonight's victory marked the 100th career win for head coach Mark Miller. Coach Miller has compiled a 100-31 record stretching over four-plus years as head coach at Norwich University (2006-2009) and Holy Family (2009-Present).

Senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) led the Holy Family offense with a game-high 19 points after shooting 8-of-12 from the field. With her performance, Carr moved into third place on the all-time scoring list surpassing Stephanie Daniels (1995-1999) who registered 1,801 career points. Carr currently has 1,818 career points and is only three points away from moving into second place on the all-time scoring list with Kim Burski (1,821 - 1995-1999). In addition, she is the fourth player in program history to score over 1,800 career points.

Graduate student Samantha Thompson (Southampton, Pa./St. Basils) (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's) tallied 14 points as she shot 5-of-8 from the field, including two three-pointers. Sophomore Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) chipped in ten points to go along with five rebounds and five blocked shots. Senior Lindsey Tennett (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) (Perkasie, Pa./Pennrdige) added seven points and nine rebounds off the bench for the Tigers.

For Georgian Court (0-23, 0-16), freshman Brittany Baker just missed out on a double-double as she recorded a team-high nine points and nine rebounds. Fellow classmate Jasmine Cobb also tallied nine points off the bench for the Lions.

Except for the first couple of minutes of action, Holy Family led the whole way as the Tigers opened the game on 21-4 run to quickly record a 17 points advantage. Holy Family shot 57.1-percent from the field in the first half and compiled a 51-19 lead heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Holy Family defense limited the Georgian Court offense to only 30.6-percent shooting from the field and forced 22 turnovers. The Tigers capitalized off the Lions' miscues, scoring 27 points off turnovers. Holy Family also held the advantage on the glass out-rebounding Georgian Court, 49-33.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 12 as the Tigers visit Post University for a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
