Women’s Basketball Knocks Off Bloomfield College, 69-51

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team defeated Bloomfield College, 69-51, in a battle between the top two teams in the North and South Divisions of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) at the Campus Center Saturday afternoon.

Holy Family, ranked 21st in the recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll and second in the NCAA Division II East Region Poll, improves to 15-3 overall and 12-1 in the CACC. The win marked the team's fifth straight victory. Bloomfield is now 13-6 overall and 11-1 in the CACC.

Sophomore Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led a quartet of scorers that finished in double figures for Holy Family. Mann scored a game-high 17 points after shooting 6-of-8 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. She also grabbed six rebounds. Senior Meghan Gibson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) contributed 15 points as she knocked down three three-pointers and dished out four assists.

Senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) tallied 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists. Carr now has 1,799 career points and is only two points away from moving into third place on the all-time scoring list in program history. Junior Lauren Peters (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) scored 11 points and recorded five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

For Bloomfield, sophomore Dre'Shonda Williams scored a team-high nine points, while junior Vanessa Lamison tallied eight points. Junior Ashley Keels chipped in seven points as well as fellow classmate Nichole Hawkins.

Trailing 17-16 late in the first half, graduate student Samantha Thompson (Southampton, Pa./St. Basils) (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's) scored a layup to jump start a 21-6 run and give Holy Family the lead from there on out.

Holy Family held Bloomfield to only three field goals the final seven-plus minutes of the first half to enter the locker rooms at halftime with a 37-23 lead.

In the second half, Bloomfield came as close as eight points on two occasions early in the half, however the Tigers held the Deacons' offense at bay not allowing them to inch any closer to their lead. Holy Family swelled its lead to as many as 20 points in the final minute of play after Peters converted a pair of free throws as the Tigers went on to the 69-51 victory.

Holy Family held the advantage on the glass as the Tigers recorded 38 rebounds compared to the 28 grabbed by Bloomfield. The Tigers also shot lights out from the free throw line converting 20-of-23 attempts. The Deacons shot 2-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 9 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
