Balanced Attack Leads Women’s Basketball to 94-42 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team had four players score in double figures as the Tigers went on to a 94-42 victory over Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at the Campus Center Thursday night.

Holy Family, ranked 21st in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll and second in the NCAA Division II East Region Poll, improves to 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the CACC. Chestnut Hill is now 6-14 and 4-9 in the CACC after the loss.

Freshman Katie Duma (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) led a quartet of scorers that finished with double-figures as she scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Holy Family offense. Duma shot 5-of-6 from the field and was 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Graduate student Samantha Thompson (Southampton, Pa./St. Basils) (Southampton, Pa./St. Basil's) finished with 14 points, while senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) contributed 12 points. Senior Meghan Gibson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also finished in double-figures with ten points.

For Chestnut Hill, junior Aiesha Smith scored a team-high 11 points off the bench, while senior Cecelia Herald added nine points. Junior Ebony Washington had ten rebounds and four blocks.

Holy Family started the game with a 9-0 run and never looked back as the Tigers drained seven three-pointers in the first half. Holy Family outscored Chestnut Hill, 57-21, as the Tigers' defense forced 15 turnovers in the half.

In the second half, Holy Family limited Chestnut Hill to only 29.6-percent shooting and 32.1-percent for the entire game. The Tigers also out-rebounded the Griffins, 55-34, on their way to victory.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5 as the Tigers host Bloomfield College in a CACC contest at the Campus Center. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
