Women's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season With 11th Straight Victory; Defeats Felician College, 71-56

Rutherford, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team won its 11th straight game after defeating Felician College, 71-56, in the team's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season finale at the Job Gymnasium Friday night.

Holy Family, ranked 17th in the recent USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll and first in the NCAA Division II East Region, improves to 21-3 overall and concludes conference play with an 18-1 mark. Felician is now 18-8 overall and wraps up conference action with a 12-7 record.

Senior Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Holy Family offense. She shot 10-of-16 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. With her 25-point performance, Carr moved even closer to the program's all-time scoring record of 1,928 career points held by Debbie Schopfer (1987-1991). Carr is only 25 points away from the milestone and currently sits at 1,903 career points.

Senior Meghan Gibson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tallied 14 points after shooting 6-of-10 from the field. Fellow classmate Lindsey Tennett (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) (Perkasie, N.Y./Pennridge) scored 11 points off the bench for the Tigers to go along with eight rebounds.

For Felician, senior Quay Baskerville scored a team-high 15 points to lead the way for the Golden Falcons. She also grabbed six rebounds. Freshman Jacquel Saunders came through with 12 points after shooting 5-of-6 from the field.

Already leading by six points at the half (39-32), Holy Family increased its lead to double-digits for the first time after starting the second half on a 6-0 run. The Tigers led by 13 points after junior Lauren Peters (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) scored a layup to make the score 45-32 at the 18:05 mark.

Holy Family continued its momentum and stretched its 6-0 run to a 14-4 rally to give the Tigers their biggest lead of the game of 17 points. Carr's jumper made the score 53-36 with 12:41 left on the clock.

However, Felician would put together a rally of their own and cut the Holy Family lead to only six points after Saunders capped an 18-7 run with a layup basket at the 5:00 minute mark of the second half.

Despite the rally by the Golden Falcons, Holy Family responded with a 10-0 run over the next four-plus minutes to put the game out of reach as the Tigers led 70-54 with 1:25 left in regulation.

Holy Family would go on to the victory as the Tigers shot nearly 50-percent from the field the entire game (49.1%) compared to Felician's 35.1-percent shooting from the field.

Holy Family, seeded number one in the South Division, will host fourth seeded Philadelphia University in the quarterfinals of the CACC Championship on Monday, Feb. 28. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. The Tigers are vying for their first conference championship since 2008.
